Sleep Training

For the past two weeks I’ve been working on sleep training Tessa. I was concerned she wasn’t sleeping well when she would wake up screaming at bedtime and took 5-6 short naps a day. I knew I had to change something. I decided to buy the book No Cry Sleep Solution and try that approach.

We first started tackling naps. Tessa now takes two short naps and one long nap a day. We are still working on a routine of when she takes the naps, but this is progress.

The biggest difference I have seen has been bedtime. Tessa no longer wakes up screaming in her sleep. She sleeps through the night (5 hours according to the book is sleeping through the night) and wakes up to feed and falls back asleep.

Tonight we had a huge break through! After giving her a bath, feeding her, and rocking her Tessa still wasn’t ready for bed. I laid her in the crib and let her roll around and wiggle. I wasn’t going to pick her up unless she started to cry. After 15 minutes she fell asleep on her OWN!!! No patting her butt, or saying “shhh” for 20 minutes.

Although sleep training is hard work I’m glad I committed to making the change and I couldn’t be more proud of my little girl.
